PDF layouts are pre-configured templates that drive document design in the Creator workspace. Each layout defines the visual system—typography, spacing, grids, and assets—along with page size/format and the page types it supports (Front Page, Back Page, Main Pages). Use these layouts to generate desktop-publishing–grade PDFs consistently and quickly, without manual typesetting.
Available layout configurations
Pergamon Creator Workspace currently supports:
Configuration matrix
All four design families—CORE, LITE, EDGE, COLOUR—share the same configuration set.
That means:
Booklet layouts in A5, A4, A6 for Front, Main, and Back pages
Leaflet layouts in A3, A4 (single-sheet)
You can switch visual designs at any time without changing the publication structure.
Default PDF layout assignment
When you create documents in Document Assembly, Pergamon assigns a default PDF layout per document type. You can change the layout later, but the initial assignment is:
Front Page → Default layout: CORE A5 Booklet
Main Pages → Default layout: CORE A5 Booklet
Back Page → Default layout: CORE A5 Booklet
Change the PDF layout
In a Document
You can switch a document’s assigned PDF layout at any time from Document Attributes.
- Open the document (Front Page, Main Pages, or Back Page).
- Go to Attributes → Styling → PDF layout.
- Select the layout you want (design family, format, size).
- You can also search for layout in the layout dropdown.
- Click Save.
Result
The document updates to the new layout. Content and structure remain the same; only styling (typography, grids, spacing, page size) changes.
Notes
This change applies to the current document only. It does not alter other documents in the publication.
You can switch layouts again later without re-running assembly.
Permissions required: Workspace owner or Editor.
In a Publication
You can change the layout in a Publication to a leaflet type.
- Open the Publication.
- Go to Publication Attributes and set the Publication type to Leaflet.
The PDF layout field appears.
Select a Leaflet layout from the list and Save.
Layout assignment constraints
Assign the correct page type
If you are editing a Front Page document, select a Front type layout.
Use Main layouts for Main Pages, and Back layouts for Back Page documents.
Do not assign a Leaflet layout to a document
Leaflet layouts are applied at the publication level only - not on individual documents.
Assigning a Leaflet layout to a document can cause formatting issues.
How layouts behave during publication export
Booklet Publications
When you export a Publication in Booklet format:
The PDF layout set in each document (Front, Main, Back) is used.
The publication inherits each document’s design family, format, and size as assigned.
Leaflet Publications
When you export a publication in Leaflet format:
Document-level PDF layout settings are ignored.
The Leaflet layout set in the Publication Attributes is used for the export.
Ensure the Publication has a Leaflet-type layout selected before exporting.
