Overview
The Document Spellchecker reviews text entered in the Pergamon Document Editor and identifies potential issues in spelling, grammar, and style.
When the Spellchecker is enabled in the user’s account settings, it continuously analyzes text within each content block during editing.
Detected issues are highlighted directly in the content blocks using color-coded underlines and contextual indicators.
The Spellchecker helps maintain linguistic accuracy and editorial consistency in documents without requiring third-party tools or extensions.
How it works
When editing is active, the Spellchecker automatically checks each content block for language issues in real time. The checks are performed locally within the editor interface and updated as you type or edit text.
Visual indicators
Red underline — Possible spelling error.
Blue underline — Possible grammar or word-usage issue.
Red dot in the content block corner — Indicates one or more flagged issues within that content block. The number inside the dot represents the total detected issues.
Inline suggestions
Hover over or click an underlined word to open a suggestion menu. The menu displays:
The issue category (Spelling or Grammar) with a color-coded dot.
A suggested correction.
Options to Ignore all, Add word, or open more actions from the ellipsis (⋯).
Selecting the suggestion replaces the flagged word in place.
Proofread dialog
Click Proofread in dialog in the the Spellchecker inline action bar to open a side panel listing all detected issues for the active content block.
Each item in the list includes:
The issue type (spelling or grammar).
A brief text excerpt showing the flagged word.
The proposed correction.
Selecting an item navigates directly to the corresponding word or phrase in the editor.
Spellchecker controls
Each content block includes an inline action bar in the lower-right corner. Click the red dot indicator to expand the bar. It slides leftward and displays three icons:
Power icon – Disable the Spellchecker for that specific content block.. The icon turns gray, and the tooltip displays “Text checker disabled.”
Settings icon – Open the Spellchecker Settings pane to configure language or detection rules.
Expand icon – Open the Proofread dialog to review all flagged items.
Disabling Spellchecker in one content block does not affect other blocks in the same document.
| Indicator color | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Red | Active issues detected (spelling, grammar, or style errors). |
| Orange | All detected issues in the block have been fixed or marked as ignored. |
| Gray | Spellchecker is disabled for that content block. |
Settings and configuration
The Spellchecker can be activated globally from User Settings → Preferences → Spellchecker. This global toggle activates or deactivates the Spellchecker for all documents in the editor.
Detailed configuration options - such as language, detection categories, and ignore rules—are available from the Settings pane inside the Document Editor.
Open this pane by clicking the Settings icon in the Spellcheck inline actions bar within any content block.
Language setting
Automatically detects the document language or allows manual language selection.
Flagging categories
Spelling – Flags potential spelling errors.
Grammar – Flags grammar and word-usage issues.
Style guide – Applies additional stylistic checks when enabled.
Autocomplete suggestions – Suggests likely completions while typing.
Ignore options
Control which words or patterns are excluded from checking:

Ignore domain names
Ignore words with mixed case
Ignore words with numbers
Dictionary management
From the Spellcheck settings, select Go to Dictionary to manage user-added words.
The Dictionary view displays all words that have been added through the editor. You can:
Add new words manually.
Rename, Disconnect, or Delete existing entries using the ellipsis (⋯) menu.
Words saved in your dictionary are not flagged in any document.
Editing behavior
Spellcheck operates per content block when enabled in User Settings.
Checks are performed locally in the editor; no external connection is required.
If Spellcheck is turned off in User Settings, all flags and indicators are hidden until it is re-enabled.
If Spellcheck is disabled in a single content block using the Power icon, it remains active in all other blocks.
When re-enabled, Spellcheck re-evaluates existing text in the block and restores applicable indicators.
