This article lists every configurable property for each annotation type in the Asset Annotation Editor. Properties are displayed in the properties panel when an annotation is selected. When multiple annotations of the same type are selected, property changes apply to all of them simultaneously.
The editor contains six annotation types:
Info
Colour values in this article use hex notation. All colour fields in the editor accept any valid hex value. Eight preset colour swatches are available in every colour picker: blue (#1a3a8a), cyan (#2dd4bf), purple (#7c3aed), red (#991b1b), orange (#e67e22), green (#166534), white (#ffffff), and black (#000000).
Callout
A labelled marker placed at a single point on the asset. Accessed by clicking the Callout tab or pressing C.
Callout type and numbering
| Property | Options | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Callout Type | 1, 2 / a, b / A, B / i, ii | Sets the label format for new callouts: numeric, lowercase letter, uppercase letter, or Roman numeral. |
| Start from | Any number or letter | The starting label value for the next callout placed. Defaults to 1, a, A, or i depending on the selected type. |
| Next number will be | Read-only preview | Displays the label that will be applied to the next callout you place. Updates in real time as existing callout labels change. |
| Auto increment | On / Off | When on, each new callout receives the next label in sequence. When off, every new callout receives the same starting label. |
Shape
| Property | Options | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Shape | Circle, Square, Rounded, Text | The marker shape. Circle, Square, and Rounded are solid filled markers. Text renders the label as plain text with no background shape. |
Appearance
| Property | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Fill colour |
#000000
|
The marker background colour for Circle, Square, and Rounded styles. For the Text style, this sets the text colour directly. |
| Text colour |
#ffffff
|
The label text colour rendered inside a filled marker (Circle, Square, Rounded). |
| Border colour | Matches fill colour | The stroke colour around the marker perimeter. |
| Stroke weight | 0 pt | The border thickness in pt. Set to 0 for no visible border. |
| Opacity | 100% | Marker transparency. 0% is fully transparent; 100% is fully opaque. |
| Rotation | 0° | Rotates the callout about its centre. Drag the rotation handle above the marker, or enter a value in degrees using the Rotation slider. The slider steps at 15 degree increments. Hold Shift while dragging the rotation handle to also snap to 15 degree increments. |
Text inside callout
| Property | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Font family | Noto Sans | The typeface used for the label text. See Available fonts. |
| Font size | 13 pt | Label text size in pt. Font size stays constant regardless of label length - two-digit and longer labels do not cause the font to shrink. |
| Bold | Off | Applies bold weight to the label text. |
| Italic | Off | Applies italic style to the label text. |
| Underline | Off | Applies underline to the label text. |
| Text alignment | Centre | Horizontal alignment of the label text within the marker: Left, Centre, or Right. |
Arrow (Line)
A line segment between two points with optional arrowhead markers on each end. Supports waypoints for multi-segment leaders. Accessed by clicking the Line tab or pressing L or A.
Stroke
| Property | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Stroke color | #000000 |
The line and arrowhead colour. |
| Stroke weight | 2 pt | Line thickness in pt. Options: 1, 2, 4, or 7. |
| Line style | Solid | The dash pattern of the line. See Line styles below. |
| Opacity | 100% | Line and arrowhead transparency. 0% is fully transparent; 100% is fully opaque. |
| Outline color | None | A secondary colour drawn behind the main stroke to create contrast against the asset background. The outline follows the same dash pattern as the main stroke. |
| Outline width | 0 pt | The thickness of the outline stroke in pt. Arrowhead outline thickness matches the line body outline width. |
Line styles
| Style | Description |
|---|---|
| Solid | Continuous unbroken line |
| Dotted (tight) | Closely spaced dots |
| Dotted (loose) | Widely spaced dots |
| Dashed | Short dashes with even spacing |
| Dashed (loose) | Longer dashes with wider gaps |
| Dash-dot | Alternating dash and dot |
| Dash-dot-dot | Alternating dash and two dots |
Arrowheads
| Property | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Start marker | None | The marker style at the start point of the arrow. Select from the available styles in the Start marker picker in the properties panel. |
| End marker | Arrow (filled) | The marker style at the end point of the arrow. Both ends can be set independently. |
| Head scale (start) | 100% | Scales the start marker independently. Range: 50% to 300%. |
| Head scale (end) | 100% | Scales the end marker independently. Range: 50% to 300%. |
Note
Head scale applies to all marker types. Scaling a dot marker increases the diameter of the circle; scaling a tick mark increases the length of the perpendicular line.
Elbow
A right-angle leader that auto-inserts one bend on draw. Accessed by clicking the Elbow tab or pressing E.
The Elbow annotation shares all the same properties as the Arrow (Line) annotation: Stroke colour, Stroke weight, Line style, Opacity, Outline colour, Outline width, Start marker, End marker, Head scale (start), and Head scale (end). Refer to the Arrow (Line) section above for the full property reference.
Info
The Elbow tool draws a line with a single auto-inserted bend. Additional bends can be added by double-clicking the shaft after placement. The waypoint and endpoint handles behave identically to those on a standard arrow.
Text frame
A rectangular text area drawn by click-dragging on the canvas. Accessed by clicking the Text tab or pressing T.
Typography

| Italic | Off | Applies italic style to the text. |
| Underline | Off | Applies underline to the text. |
| Text alignment | Left | Horizontal alignment: Left, Centre, Right, or Justify. |
| Line height | 1.4 | Line spacing multiplier. Higher values increase the space between lines. |
| Letter spacing | 0 px | Additional spacing between characters in pixels. |
| Vertical align | Top | Positions text at the top, centre, or bottom of the frame. |
Appearance
| Property | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|

| Stroke weight | 1 pt | Border thickness in pixels. Options: 1, 2, 4, or 7. |
| Opacity | 100% | Frame and content transparency together. 0% is fully transparent; 100% is fully opaque. |
| Rotation | 0° | Rotates the frame about its centre. Drag the rotation handle above the bounding box, or enter a value in degrees using the Rotation slider. The slider steps at 15 degree increments. Hold Shift while dragging the rotation handle to also snap to 15 degree increments. |
Note
The text frame auto-expands vertically while typing. If content exceeds the frame after it is committed, resize the frame using the Select tool to reveal hidden content.
Shape
A filled geometric shape drawn by click-dragging on the canvas. Accessed by clicking the Shape tab or pressing S.
Shape type
| Property | Options | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Shape type | Circle, Square, Rounded | The geometry of the shape. Circle draws an ellipse (hold Shift to constrain to a perfect circle). Square draws a rectangle (hold Shift to constrain to a perfect square). Rounded draws a rectangle with rounded corners. |
Appearance
| Property | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Fill colour | #3357bf |
The shape interior colour. Select the diagonal slash swatch to remove the fill and produce an outline-only shape. |
| Border colour | #000000 |
The stroke colour around the shape perimeter. |
| Stroke weight | 2 pt | Border thickness in pt. |
| Border style | Solid | The dash pattern of the border. Options: Solid, Dotted (tight), Dotted (loose), Dashed, Dashed (loose), Dash-dot, Dash-dot-dot. |
| Opacity | 100% | Shape transparency. Reducing opacity lets the asset show through the fill, useful when using a shape as a highlight overlay. |
| Rotation | 0° | Rotates the shape about its centre. Drag the rotation handle above the bounding box, or enter a value in degrees using the Rotation slider. The slider steps at 15 degree increments. Hold Shift while dragging the rotation handle to also snap to 15 degree increments. |
Tip
To use a shape as a highlight overlay, set Opacity to 20 to 30% and keep the fill colour. The asset remains visible through the shape while the highlighted region is clearly distinguishable.
Scribble
A freehand stroke drawn by click-dragging on the canvas. Accessed by clicking the Scribble tab or pressing B.
| Property | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Line style | Solid | The dash pattern of the freehand path. Options: Solid, Dotted (tight), Dotted (loose), Dashed, Dashed (loose), Dash-dot, Dash-dot-dot. |

Canvas settings
Canvas settings are visible in the properties panel when the Select tab is active, below the Layers panel.
| Property | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Width | Asset width | Artboard width in pixels. Minimum is the original asset width. |
| Height | Asset height | Artboard height in pixels. Minimum is the original asset height. |
| Presets | Custom | Applies a common aspect ratio to the artboard: Original, 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, or A4. |
| Background colour | #ffffff |
The artboard fill colour visible outside the asset boundaries. |
| Units | px | Unit of measurement per category: General, Stroke, and Type. Options are px, pt, and mm. Preferences are saved per browser session. |
| DPI | 72 | Dots per inch used for point-to-pixel conversion. Defaults to 200, matching InDesign preview export resolution. At 200 DPI, 1 pt = 2.78 px. Set to 72 for Illustrator parity (1 pt = 1 px). |
Note
Resizing the artboard does not scale or crop the asset. The asset stays at its original dimensions inside the expanded canvas area. Annotation positions are artboard-relative and remain anchored to their position on the artboard, not to the asset itself.
