Grouping lets you combine two or more annotations into a single unit. Once grouped, the annotations move, duplicate, and delete together as one, preserving their relative positions and arrangement. Use grouping when you want to keep a set of related annotations together, for example a callout paired with an arrow pointing to the same component.
Grouping annotations
You need at least two annotations selected to create a group.
- Press V or Esc to switch to the Select tool.
- Select two or more annotations using a marquee drag, or Ctrl/Cmd A to select all.
- Press Ctrl/Cmd G, or click the Group button in the right toolbar.
The selected annotations are now grouped. In the Layers panel, all members of the group are highlighted together whenever any one of them is selected.
Note
Grouping requires a minimum of two annotations. The Group button and shortcut have no effect when fewer than two annotations are selected.
Working with a group
Clicking any member of a group automatically selects the entire group. From there, all standard operations apply to the group as a whole:
| Action | Behaviour |
|---|---|
| Move | All group members move together, preserving their relative positions. |
| Duplicate | All group members are duplicated together. The duplicated set forms its own independent group. |
| Delete | All group members are deleted together. |
| Z-order | Bringing a group member to front or sending it to back moves the entire group in the layer stack. |
Tip
To move or edit a single member within a group without affecting the others, ungroup first, make your changes, then regroup.
Ungrouping annotations
Ungrouping releases the annotations back into independent objects. Their positions and styles are unchanged.
- Click any member of the group to select it. The entire group is selected.
- Press Ctrl/Cmd Shift G, or click the Ungroup button in the right toolbar.
The annotations are now independent. You can select, move, and edit each one individually.
Note
Both grouping and ungrouping are undoable. Press Ctrl/Cmd Z to reverse either action.
