Use AI translation when you need a source document translated into one or more languages without commissioning a human translation from scratch.
Before you begin
- Have the source document available in Documents.
- Know the target languages you need.
- Confirm your workspace has enough tokens for AI translation (depending on your Pergamon domain).
Create the translation project
Starting a translation project from the source document lets you track every target-language job and its status in one place.
- In the Documents Hub, select the source document's options menu (⋮).
- Select Localize.
- In Select languages, add each target language you need. Languages marked EXIST already have a target document.
- Select Next.
- Review Unused Languages and select Next — these existing target documents won't be affected.
- In Summary, review New targets, Overwritten/Updated, and Skipped/Not being updated.
- Create translation project is selected by default. Select Save.
- Enter a Project Name, optionally include Pergamon Translation Memories, and choose a Workflow Type.
- Select Next.
- Review the languages listed in Destination Languages and click Next.
- Set the Deadline, Project Manager, Priority, and Category.
- Select Create.
- Select Open Translation Project.
Start an AI translation job
Each target language runs as its own job within the translation project. The Translation tab shows each job's Target, Status, and Words.
- Open the Translation tab.
- Select the target-language job's options menu (⋮).
- Select Translate by AI.
- Select Confirm.
Confirming the job consumes the number of tokens shown in the dialog.
Import the completed translation
After you start a job, its status changes to Sent to AI. When the translation is available, the status changes to Ready for import.
- Select the job's options menu (⋮).
- Select Import translation.
- Select Confirm.
Pergamon changes the job status to Imported.
Find the translated document
- Open the Documents Hub.
- Select the target document by its value in the Language column.
For example, a translated German target document shows DE in Language and EN-GB in Source.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a translation project to use AI translation?
Yes. Pergamon requires a translation project to manage the source document and its target-language jobs.
What does EXIST mean when I select a language?
EXIST means a target document already exists for that language. Review the project summary to see whether Pergamon will create, update, or skip that target.
When can I import an AI translation?
You can import the translation once its job status changes to Ready for import.
What happens after I import a translation?
Pergamon changes the job status to Imported and makes the target document available in Documents.
Can I download the translation file?
Yes. Open the job's options menu (⋮) and select Download XLIFF when the option is available.
